Patricia comenzó a tocar el saxofón a los 13 años y estudió en Chile con reconocidos saxofonistas. Se mudó a los Estados Unidos a los 20 años y se convirtió en la primera mujer chilena en graduarse de Berklee College of Music. Más tarde, cursó su maestría en Estudios de Jazz en la Universidad de Nueva York con una beca completa. Sus maestros de saxofón en los Estados Unidos incluyeron a Jerry Bergonzi, Jackie McLean, George Garzone, entre otros. Zárate ha actuado en América del Norte, Central y del Sur con varias bandas en diversos entornos. Ha actuado en el Lincoln Center, el Jazz Showcase de Chicago, el Detroit Jazz Festival, el Conservatorio de París, el Havana Jazz Festival, entre muchos otros sitios, y en países como Corea, Puerto Rico, Panamá, Chile, EE. UU., Gabón, Camerún, España, entre otros. Actualmente, Patricia se desempeña como miembro de la Junta Directiva de Fundación Danilo Pérez, Directora Ejecutiva del Panama Jazz Festival y profesora en el departamento de Musicoterapia de Berklee College of Music y el Berklee Global Jazz Institute. También es estudiante en el programa de doctorado del Departamento de Desarrollo Social e Inclusión Global en la Universidad de Massachusetts y educa en el hogar sus hijos junto a su esposo en Estados Unidos, Panamá y Chile. 

Patricia began playing the saxophone at the age of 13 and studied in Chile with renowned saxophonists. She moved to the United States at age 20 and became the first Chilean woman to graduate from Berklee College of Music. Later, she pursued her master's degree in Jazz Studies at New York University on a full scholarship. Her saxophone teachers in the United States included Jerry Bergonzi, Jackie McLean, George Garzone, among others. Zárate has performed in North, Central, and South America with various bands in various settings. He has performed at Lincoln Center, the Chicago Jazz Showcase, the Detroit Jazz Festival, the Paris Conservatory, and the Havana Jazz Festival, among many other places, and in countries such as Korea, Puerto Rico, Panama, Chile, USA. , Gabon, Cameroon, and Spain, among others. Currently, Patricia serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Danilo Pérez Foundation, Executive Director of the Panama Jazz Festival, and professor in the Music Therapy department of Berklee College of Music and the Berklee Global Jazz Institute. She is also a student in the doctoral program of the Department of Social Development and Global Inclusion at the University of Massachusetts and homeschools her children with her husband in the United States, Panama, and Chile.
